Najjar & Najjar Create a Futuristic Home in Vienna for IT Entrepreneur

Should an IT Entrepreneur’s home be any different from other people’s homes? I guess it should be more high tech and futuristic to say the least. Yes, that is the right answer as we came across Villa F in Vienna, Austria. Najjar & Najjar are the architects for this futuristic project.
The owner who is a passionate fan of Mac computer designs and Lamborghinis, had asked the architects and designers that the place he lived and worked in should reflect his passions. He was also particular about integrating all the latest trends in home technologies in his new home. And the result has been that you have Plasma TVs jumping out of seemingly common furniture, a large aquarium with computer generated graphics, LED lighting and sound systems turned on and off with the help of a mouse click- everything in this futuristic place is digitally maneuvered.
The final design does have that feel of a sci-fi movie set and yet promises comfort and luxury. You have views of nature that would keep you relaxed while you work. I must warn you that this house is not for those who are disorganized by nature. But if you are the organized type you will feel that the home is well conceived and equally well executed.

HP Skyline 2020 Competition Draws Out Noteworthy Designs & Concepts

HP had organized a competition dubbed “The City and the Skyline”. The initiative was a response to the growing crises of water, housing, food and energy. The amazing vertical farm took first place in the HP Skyline 2020 Competition with the objective to reinvent India’s skyline. The project was, no doubt, very appropriate and the response was equally enthusiastic. The multi tiered self-sufficient vertical farm is composed of modular housing units that can be added as needed. Apart from the winning design the competition yielded some truly noteworthy designs.
The thinking was really out of the box and it challenged the traditional notion of what a skyline is supposed to look like. HP had managed to get top class jurors that included big names like Christopher Charles Beninger, Patrik Scumacher, Sen Kapadia and Hirante Welandawe. It was the credibility of the jurors that inspired confidence amongst the designer community and the competition which was launched in April of 2010 could garner over 300 quality and serious entries.
The national winner of the competition was “City and the Skyline” by Anto Gloren and Sayali Athale of Pune, India and received a HP Workstation and a HP Large Format Design jet Printer, while the four zonal winners received a printer

Give A Musical Send Of To The Demised With The All New Vinyl Ashes Records From And Vinyls

Music is immortal just like the soul of a being, a timeless and eternal entity that is forever remembered. Same can now be said in the case of those who cross the path of life and ascend to the heavens, as ‘And Vinyls’ a U.K based company is offering the relatives of those who have departed this mortal realm to cherish and preserve their memories, by turning their ashes into a vinyl record. These vinyl records can contain any number of tracks from a deceased’s voice, their favorite tunes or their last will and testament.
This incredible new concept is the brainchild of Jason Leach, who is also the founder of the firm, And Vinyls and is also the founder of some of the most established record labels, including House of Fix, Daftwerk and Death to Vinyl. One of the primary reasons for this innovative approach to a funeral by Mr. Leach, is the fact that, his mother worked at a funeral home and also the thought that, such an approach would make the whole process a bit more interesting. To create these unique records, the process involves the sprinkling of ashes onto a raw piece of vinyl, that is then pressed by the plates.
Along with the vinyl ashes records, And Vinyl also offers personalized ‘Rest in Vinyl’ (RIY) artwork and the high end version of these artworks are designed by artist James Hague, using the ashes mixed with paint. The basic package of the vinyl ashes records come with a price tag of $3,086.

A Date With Wine: A Wine Stopper that Can Tell You When You Opened Your Bottle

New York based designer George Lee keeps coming up with interesting and useful designs. For all those wine drinkers out there, he has brought out a cool new product called A Date With Wine. It is basically a wine stopper that tells you when you had opened your wine. This way you can guess whether the wine is still worth drinking or has it been open for too long.
The look of this wine stopper is pretty industrial considering it has been made with a food-grade stainless steel and silicone. As you can see, the top of the cork comes with a twistable date ring that starts once you open the bottle the first time. It is not some rocket science, but I guess it still would be usefull to those forgetful people or those who don’t drink wine very frequently and also drink it at long intervals I guess. Well actually any wine drinker could buy this product.
These little inventions are the ones that come in handy in our day to day life. And I am sure it would cost a bomb. I have been impressed with George Lee, and will look forward to his other innovative designs in the future.

Manhattan gas barbeque grill: A great Buy

If you are looking for a great BBQ grill then I have just the thing for you my friend. The name is Manhattan gas barbeque grill. This design is amazing and to prove how great it is, let me tell you that it got an honourable mention in the Red Dot Design award 2010. With its ultra modern look, it will be the perfect outdoor accessory.
Its countertop is made of wood, and has two infinitely variable cooking zones, both of them having a 3.5 kW capacity. It also has an adjustable burner and also sufficient storage space to accommodate all the things you need for a BBQ. The grill area is also sufficiently large at 37.5 cm x 45.0 cm if you don’t have a very big party. The grill cover is double-processed, and the wind/spray protection is made of stainless steel, which is easily removable.
The BBQ grill also comes with integrated roller wheels that give it sufficient mobility to be moved anywhere outside or inside the house. The grill comes with a price tag of $512, which is not expensive at all. Would be a great buy I think and within your budget as well, I guess.

Dolphin Hydrofoil, the Ultimate Jet Ski in Looks & Performance

The concept of the Dolphin Hydrofoil has been developed by Nikko Van Stolk. When you look at the machine you are unable to make up your mind if the design has been inspired by a fish or a bird. But as the name suggests, it embodies the playfulness of the dolphins jumping out of the water. The Dolphin Hydrofoil personal watercraft boasts extremely sporty looks combined with enhanced features to enrich the rider with a truly exhilarating experience.
The design goes one step ahead of the traditional jet skies. The front and rear hydrofoils act as wings, lifting the main hull of the craft above the water, increasing efficiency and the maximum achievable speed. The elliptical design of the hydrofoil in front gives a continuous lift that makes it possible to execute high speed banked turns. When you see the craft traveling at high speed it looks like it is flying over the water rather than skipping over its surface.
The design has been well thought out and equally well executed. The impeller which is embedded in the central dagger board of the craft provides it with continuous thrust and the lift provided by the hydrofoils reduces the turbulence from the surface water resulting in greater speed. When the craft decelerates and the wind is not enough for the hydrofoils to provide the lift, it sinks in the water and the craft comes to rest on its hull.
Tea Tabletop Design Demonstrates the “Ripple Effect”
Designs and concepts these days are more about remodeling or embedding futuristic technology into existing gadgets. But Korean Industrial Design students Jeonghwa Seo and Hanna Chung thought of something rather more unconventional-use the intangible culture as seed for a Tea Table Design. Eastern folks strongly believe in the “Ripple Effect” of small changes in individual personality or objects can have a big impact on a social culture. As seen from the images, there is a water layer on the top of the table. The tea plates floats on the water when one is drinking tea. Any movement on the table would cause an impact across the entire tabletop.
The design attempts to deliver an interface for analyzing the way of considering cultural differences in psychological level through the process of design and form. Business organizations need to be culturally sensitive when entering new markets or tossing out new products. On a similar note, the folks here want the design fraternity to consider mentality when dealing with culture as a context of design.
Give the fact globalization is shaping the future of World Economy, a deeper understanding of a region’s culture and cultural differences as against other social structures will help one get on top of the heap. This has been beautifully illustrated by Tea Tabletop Design.
